Hi, this is Dr. Vik Khanna, and I wanted to discuss EmSculpt treatment briefly. EmSculpt is a treatment that builds muscle and burns fat.
It is a device that we apply to the outside of the skin, and it induces these strong muscle contractions rapidly.
A typical 30-minute session will cause the targeted muscles to contract about 20,000 times, and these contractions are much stronger than anything available during a workout.
It's generally a painless treatment, which builds the muscle quickly, and you can target specific muscles.
What are common areas it is used on?
The abdomen is the most common area we treat at Dermatology Specialists of Illinois in males.
In females, it's the buttock area, but both males and females can use it for both areas. We also have devices to treat the calves, the biceps, and the triceps.
EmSculpt is a form of body contouring that doesn't involve exercise, diet, or surgery.
It uses focused electromagnetic energy to predictably and non-invasively contract the muscles, build them, and strengthen them. This is very good to combine with your workouts, diet, and exercise plan.
What are the benefits?
We've had it for about two years at DSI, and the patients that have used it have been very pleased with it.
There's no special prep for it, no anesthesia for it, and no recovery time afterward, and you can take those results you get, build on, and move forward with your workouts.
A lot of people like to do it periodically to boost and build more muscle and burn more fat, so EmSculpt has been a great addition to Dermatology Specialists' abilities, and I highly recommend it.
If it sounds too good to be true, it’s probably Emsculpt

That’s right, this is not a gimmick or a bunch of hype. What is it?

The science behind the beauty
Body contouring without surgery, diet, or exercise sounds like a dream come true. In fact, our patients tell us that it is! How does it work? What makes Emsculpt possible? The answer is HIFEM (High Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic) technology, which
delivers powerful electromagnetic energy safely, predictably, and noninvasively. The energy waves pass through your skin and surface tissues, specifically targeting muscles. The result is powerful contractions,
which effectively tone and strengthen muscles.
Emsculpt treatment does not mimic the effects of physical exercise. In truth, it can be much better for several reasons.
Emsculpt induces supramaximal muscle contractions, which are much stronger than anything achievable during a workout.
Patients experience about 20,000 of these muscle contractions during a 30-minute session. Compare that with the number of exercise repetitions you complete in half an hour.
Any movement involves multiple muscles, with some carrying more of the burden than others. The least-used muscles are often the most difficult to tone. By contrast, Emsculpt is targeted, and it can treat
whatever muscles are most problematic.
Emsculpt body contouring is fast, comfortable, and convenient. You might not have the time or energy for 20,000 squats and crunches, but there is probably room in your schedule to squeeze in a comfortable,
30-minute treatment.
Exercise can indirectly reduce overall body fat, because it burns calories. However, you can’t control where this fat comes from. Emsculpt, on the other hand, triggers apoptosis, a process that destroys
fat cells in the target area.
Candidates
Many patients can benefit from Emsculpt’s approach to body contouring without surgery, if they are in good health and are not:
Pregnant
Feverish
Injured or with muscle impairment
Recent surgical patients (muscle contraction can delay healing from procedures)
Conditions such as epilepsy or pulmonary insufficiency, as well as the presence of cardiac pacemakers or metal and electronic implants, represent additional contraindications. Dr Khanna thoroughly evaluate your medical history and consult with you before
moving forward with this fat-burning, muscle-building treatment. Emsculpt is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle and sensible weight loss program.
The process
If Emsculpt is right for you, Dermatology Specialists of Illinois will go over everything you need to know about the procedure, which generally involves:
No Special Preparation
The doctors recommend that you are well-hydrated and wear comfortable clothing, which allows for flexibility when they position you during treatment. You should also remove all metal jewelry and accessories, as well as electronic
devices.
No Anesthesia
As Dr Khanna apply the device, you will feel muscle contractions that are limited to the treatment area. Each treatment takes about 20 to 30 minutes.
No Recovery
Go about your work or exercise routine immediately afterward! Some patients do experience soreness, like the aftereffects of a hard workout. You may also experience some temporary and localized redness or swelling.
A Personalized Treatment Plan
While every patient is different, on average, four treatments, scheduled at least two days apart, are required to get maximum results.
Maintain those Results
Expect to see gradually improved results from Emsculpt body sculpting treatment, with optimal improvement seen after around three months. No special diet is required. But a healthy lifestyle keeps you looking and feeling great.

I have been doing a lot of core work so I did Emsculpt in tandem and it completely changed my foundation. It just really changed my life; I get to go workout with my girlfriends and do dance cardio. I feel better when I am picking up my kids. I am just exercising smarter because I am stronger. I am not really a champion or into anything invasive and I am not into aesthetics. I care about athletics and being capable and a strong woman and I don’t know what exactly that looks like because it is totally different for every single woman. Well I definitely see lines on my stomach where I never have, which is a total anomaly for me and I am just getting to live the life that I want to. I look better, I feel better but I am working out consistently without landing in a physical therapist’s office because I have ever done it or thrown my back out. My curve was like a fish tank after kids.

Emsculpt Before and After Results
What to expect from the Emsculpt procedure
The Emsculpt procedure is surprisingly comfortable. You can lie down and relax while your dermatologist uses a specialized handpiece to deliver therapeutic energy. Targeted muscles will contact rapidly, leaving them feeling as if you’ve completed an intense
workout. Aside from a bit of soreness, comparable to what you might feel after a trip to the gym, most patients don’t notice significant side effects.
The entire procedure typically takes about 30 minutes, depending on the treatment area. There is no subsequent downtime, as most patients resume normal activities the same day. You will notice an improvement
in muscle tone as well as reduction in fat, which occurs gradually over several months. Most patients will need a series of several treatments in order to achieve optimal improvement. The exact Emsculpt cost will vary,
because every treatment is customized. Full results are apparent approximately three months after the final treatment.

Emsculpt is the first-ever, FDA-cleared device to build, strengthen, and tone muscles as well as to eliminate fatty tissue in areas that are traditionally hard to treat with conventional weight loss methods. Unlike
other noninvasive technologies that only treat fat, Emsculpt targets both fat and muscle.
Emsculpt uses a proprietary HIFEM® technology, which is delivered comfortably via specialized applicators. This technology induces supramaximal contractions that support muscle-building and fat-burning. These contractions
are not achievable with high-intensity exercise. In fact, each 30-minute Emsculpt treatment induces contractions that are equal to completing 20,000 squats or crunches.
The Emsculpt device remains on the surface of the skin throughout treatment. Since the HIFEM® technology that penetrates the skin is so targeted, only the areas you want to treat are affected. As a noninvasive treatment,
Emsculpt carries with it a low risk of complications.
Just about any area that is particularly difficult to tighten and tone is appropriate for Emsculpt treatment, including the abdomen, butt, calves, and arms (biceps and triceps).
The length of each treatment depends on the size of the area to be treated, as well as the number of areas you wish to define and sculpt. Generally, each treatment takes about 20 to 30 minutes.
Emsculpt is so well-tolerated by patients that no anesthesia is needed to remain comfortable throughout treatment. Patients will feel the muscles contracting when the applicator delivers powerful HIFEM® energy; however,
this sensation is temporary and limited to the treatment zone. Afterward, patients experience the type of soreness they have after a tough workout. Some temporary redness or swelling is also possible.
Since the procedure is noninvasive, Emsculpt allows you to get back to exercise or family and office commitments immediately after treatment. There is, after all, nothing to recover from – a true no-downtime and lunchtime
procedure!
At least two days are required between each additional treatment session. As you go through treatment, the results will become more noticeable and dramatic. Many patients see optimal results after about three months.
Your sculpted body will remain if you stay active and keep up with a healthy lifestyle. There are no special diets or exercise requirements. Also, Emsculpt is not a substitute for a sensible diet and weight loss program.
