Dr. Vikram "Vic" Khanna
Dr. Vikram "Vic" Khanna of Illinois is a board-certified dermatologist who has offered patients in the area of dermatological care for over 20 years. He serves patients of all ages and provides general, cosmetic, and medical solutions for the skin, hair, nails, and body. He has years of extensive education and training at Northwestern University and is a graduate of the Honors Program in Medical Education.
His dermatological career started at Feinberg School of Medicine Northwestern University and continued with an internship in internal medicine at the Emory University Graduate School of Medicine. He finished with a residency in dermatology at Case Western Reserve University as a Chief Resident and continues to educate himself on dermatological advances that are happening every day. He is dedicated to providing comprehensive care at Dermatology Specialists of Illinois.
Education
Dr. Khanna went to Naperville North High School, then attended Northwestern University. He was a member of the prestigious Honors Program in Medical Education as he completed his undergraduate studies. He continued his education at Feinberg School of Medicine Northwestern University, where his life changed forever as he discovered a love for dermatology.
Upon completion of an internship in internal medicine at Emory University Graduate School of Medicine, Dr. Khanna moved to Cleveland. There he fulfilled a residency in dermatology at Case Western Reserve University, where he served as Chief Resident in his final year. The opportunity was invaluable – the dermatology residency department at this institution consistently receives top U.S. rankings.
In 1999, Dr. Khanna became board-certified in Dermatology. He has recertified twice in Dermatology. Most recently, Dr. Khanna became board certified in Mohs micrographic surgery by the American Board of Dermatology, which now allows him to provide patients with outpatient Mohs surgical treatment for various forms of skin cancer.
Medical dermatology, teaching, and research
Dr. Khanna's skill as a dermatologic surgeon has become well known. His precision in cyst, lipoma, mole, and skin cancer surgeries (including Mohs treatment) is sought-after in Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, Trout Valley, Cary, Crystal Lake, Woodstock, Huntley, Barrington, Elgin, Gilberts, Dundee, McHenry, Wauconda, Lake Zurich, Hoffman Estates, and well beyond. He receives many referrals from other physicians and dermatologists. He shares his knowledge with others through an extensive lecture schedule, also teaching medical students and residents. Dr. Khanna serves as a Clinical Instructor on the Northwestern University Department of Dermatology faculty.
While he finds the technical aspects of medical dermatology fascinating, Dr. Khanna also recognizes the human element of this field – that every diagnosis, treatment, or surgery impacts a life. He approaches each case with warmth and compassion. Acting as a true advocate for patients suffering from skin diseases, he encourages participation in appropriate clinical research.
Cosmetic dermatology
In addition to improving the quality of life for those with skin ailments, Dr. Khanna helps patients enhance their looks with a broad range of cosmetic dermatology treatments, including Botox and injectable fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removal, and skin rejuvenation therapies. He performs cosmetic procedures himself and emphasizes achieving a refreshed, natural appearance.
When Dr. Khanna is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife, three young children, and their friends, traveling, art appreciation, reading, and movies.
