Eczema Treatment For Kids, Dermatology Specialists of Illinois
As parents, we worry when we notice changes in our children. If you have noticed a red patch on your child or see him or her constantly scratching an area to the point of further skin irritation, you may be wondering what is going on. Kids have skin issues just as adults do, and may need to see a dermatologist. Located in Algonquin, IL, Dr. Vic Khanna of Dermatology Specialists of Illinois offers treatment for a range of pediatric skin conditions, including eczema, acne, moles, and warts.

What is eczema?

Eczema is a common condition characterized by red, itchy patches of skin. It often appears on the face and chin but can show up elsewhere on the body as well. Although it is more common in young children, older children and adults can be affected even if they did not have it at an early age.

The biggest indicator of eczema is itchy skin. Young children do not understand not to scratch and can scratch the areas until they bleed. Additional symptoms of eczema may vary from patient to patient. It is important to speak with your child's doctor if he or she presents with any of the following symptoms:
  • Dry, sensitive skin
  • Red patches of skin
  • Itchiness
  • Patches of dark colored skin
  • Rough or scaly skin
  • Oozing or crusting
  • Swelling
Although there is no cure for eczema, treatments can manage the symptoms. Dr. Khanna offers oral medications, steroid creams, nonsteroidal treatments, and light therapies to treat your child's eczema. Dermatologists can manage treatment plans including therapies, medications, skin care, and avoiding certain triggers.

If you are concerned about your child's eczema or have noticed changes in his or her skin, contact Dermatology Specialists of Illinois to make an appointment today. 844-307-7546
